Soshal: Hello Dr.Vijaya Bhaskar. How are you?
Dr.Bhaskar: I am good.
Soshal: Can you tell us about yourself
Dr.Bhaskar: I did MBBS and specialized in diabetology. Then I did super specialty i.e., Stem Cell regenerative medical from Manipal. I have 19 years of experience. I have my own hospital in kondapur, Hyderabad. We deal into anti-aging, aesthetic (surgical and non-surgical cosmetics) and Stem Cell i.e., regenerative. I am the first Stem Cell physician in India from Manipal.
Soshal: What made you start the hospital?
Dr.Bhaskar: I used to practice earlier. Then I wanted to start a hospital, and finally started in kondapur. Apart from this, I do consultations in Bangalore, Mumbai, and Delhi for cosmetic and Stem Cell.
Soshal: What other services do you provide in your hospital?
Dr.Bhaskar: We have everything like gynecology, lab surgery, and general surgery, orthopedic and cosmetic surgery.
Soshal: What do you think will be the next breakthrough in your industry?
Dr.Bhaskar: From pills to cells is the slogan we are promoting. Stop taking pills because till now people were on medication. Instead of this, I want to introduce their own cells as Stem Cell. Till now only medicines could help the diabetics. But with stem cells diabetic reversal can be done. Even for hair regrowth, thyroid, and fibrosis in mouth, alcoholics, and smokers where lungs are damaged this cell therapy are being used. With this method nerves, blood vessels and even muscles can be regenerated.
Soshal: Why did you decide to become a stem cell physician?
Dr.Bhaskar: I used to work with Thalassemia children when I just started my career. It’s a blood disorder. People used to transplant blood for this which was very expensive. Then I had an association with someone who started doing stem cell research in Italy. With this inspiration, I joined Manipal and started developing stem cells and I’m the first to come out from there as a Stem Cell physician.
Soshal: What are your strengths?
Dr.Bhaskar: I am the first Stem Cell physician in India and my specialization & expertise are my strengths. There are very few people really doing it in India now.
Soshal: Have the availability of newer drugs changed the way to treat diabetes?
Dr.Bhaskar: It is not drugs that changed but People’s lifestyle. We are trying to tell people not to take medicines.
Soshal: What is the biggest change you have seen in diabetic treatment till now?
Dr.Bhaskar: People are taking up reversal of diabetes and they are accepting it. We treat the stem cells for the existing diabetic damage.
Soshal: What do you think would be the next major breakthrough in your field?
Dr.Bhaskar: An Individualized anti-aging approach by stem cells.
Soshal: What extent did diabetes erode the healthcare?
Dr.Bhaskar: Previously there was one in the family who had diabetes but now no one is left from diabetes
Soshal: What are your future plans for your work and career?
Dr.Bhaskar: I am trying to go little broader in the stem cell science because I want to start an institute where there would be clinical applications and a better education module and public banking.
Soshal: Any words of wisdom for the aspiring medicos?
Dr.Bhaskar: Treat yourself and see you will know what to do.
