Addressing a function where water was released from the Azhiyar Dam in the district, Minister S.P. Velumani said Chief Minister K Palaniswami had been taking various measures to address the needs of farmers. State Local Administration Minister S. P. Velumani hailed his government’s initiative in reviving the ‘Kudimaramathu Scheme.’ He went on to invoke the memory of “Amma” Jayalalithaa who envisioned this scheme.
Tamil Nadu’s water bodies and dams are brimming with water due to community participation in de-silting and cleaning of lakes, lake beds, catchment areas, streams by adopting “Kudimaramathu” (the age-old practice of community participation in tank repair and management).
He said “Kudimaramathu” has been widely appreciated by the people and has become a people’s movement. To a reporter’s question on alleged nepotism and corruption in tender contracts of various city corporations to firms such as KCP Engineers Pvt. Ltd., he rubbished the allegations as baseless and termed them as attempts by political opponents to tarnish Amma’s (AIADMK) government.
